It seems Disney is committed to giving us live-action remakes we didn’t ask for. P.J. Hogan’s Peter Pan from 2003 was pretty close to perfection, and I have yet to meet someone who disagrees, so why did Disney think this was necessary? Sure the 1953 animated film contains racist stereotypes, but these have already been rectified in later remakes and adaptations.

Interestingly, “Are You There God?” and “Peter Pan & Wendy” would be released on the same day. One movie embraces puberty while the other runs away from it…at least that’s what Peter Pan is supposed to be about. Peter Pan is the boy who will never grow up, who wants to always be a boy and have fun. Peter Pan is a tragedy. While he will always be young and have amazing adventures, he will never love or understand what it truly means to be loved.

This new Peter Pan doesn’t capture any of that. In true Disney fashion, this live-action remake has a gaping hole where the magic should be. It’s a dry, lifeless DEI project that lacks everything that makes Peter Pan timeless.

As per usual, I have quite a bit to say about this. Be the first to listen to this episode before it drops on Friday.
