A couple of days ago the 54th Annual GMA Dove Awards, which honors achievements in Christian music, was held in Nashville, Tennessee, and Derek Webb was in attendance. Are you unfamiliar with this name? It’s okay, because so was I, and if you’re anything like me you can name Christian bands, but you can’t identify their members. Derek Webb was one of the former lead singers for Caedmon’s Call, a Christian band that was popular in the 90s and early 2000s. Their song “Majesty” was a favorite of mine when I was a freshman in college. Derek made the “bold” decision to wear a dress to the show and was accompanied by Flamy Grant, a drag queen Christian music artist, and Grace Semler Baldrige, a queer Christian singer-songwriter.

No, I’m not making this up.

People say to ignore it and move on, but as a church body, we have to talk about this because this is what the church is becoming.
