Votes are still being counted, but Kamala Harris has officially conceded. Former President Donald Trump is officially President-Elect Donald Trump.
I’m still processing the Trump win, but the Kamala Harris loss has intrigued me. What happened? I expected this to be a battle over two states. Still, within a few hours, Kamala was backed into an electoral corner with only one path to victory: Nab Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennslyvania or lose.
She lost all three.
I’m sure there are a million areas, ons, and we’ll be dissecting this election for decades, but here are my thoughts on why she lost.
Rhetoric
Harris shifted her campaign strategy towards the end from joy and unity to hatred and division. She and her surrogates compared Trump and his followers to Hitler and Nazis respectively, even going so far as to make parallels between Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden and the 1939 Nazi rally at the same location. Julia Roberts partnered with the Harris campaign to target women in a tone-deaf ad that implied Republican men are abusive and controlling.
I don’t know who told them hurling insults at your political opponents was a winning strategy, but it didn’t work. I don’t know why they thought they could demean male masculinity and still keep men, black and Latino men especially, in their corner.
And lessons still aren’t being learned.
It’s post-election and journalists and celebrities are still throwing shade and blame at Trump voters instead of taking accountability. While there are racists and sexists who are registered to vote, Kamala being black and female is the least of most voters’ concerns. She’s unlikable on the national stage and has been since she tried to run for president in 2019. They didn’t like her then, and I’m not sure why they thought people would like her now. Democrats are struggling to face facts, that fact being they SELECTED a candidate so awful the Amish rolled up like it was the Oregon Trail. It’s easier to blame the voters for not doing what you want than to look in the mirror and admit you’re the problem. Newsflash, Democrats: Kamala Harris was the problem.
Her campaign was weak! She played it safe and cutesy, staying in pockets and spaces that were friendly to her nonsense instead of engaging with Americans who would give her a real challenge. Don’t tell me you will stare down Vladimir Putin when you won’t even sit across from Joe Rogan.
Biden
“Would you have done something differently?” She was asked by Sunny from The View and she said, “There’s not a thing that comes to mind.” She’s either avoiding the question or she’s that disengaged.
The Democrat strategy to gaslight Americans into believing life under Biden hasn’t been that bad didn’t work. People can see it when they buy gas and groceries, or when they turn on the news and see wars in Israel, Gaza, Lebanon, and Ukraine. People can see it when they hear the name of another woman who was raped and murdered by an illegal immigrant. She had an opportunity to validate the American experience but instead, she dismissed it.
Simply put, she didn’t do enough to distance herself from Joe Biden. That’s it. That’s the tweet.
Abortion
The crux of her campaign rested on the empty promise to restore reproductive freedoms (abortion) nationwide, something she legally couldn’t do. Abortion, per the Supreme Court, belongs to the states. Congress could pass a bill and she could sign it, but it would struck down before the ink dried. Fearmongering and lying to women was the strategy, convincing women of child-birthing age they would die if she didn’t win was her entire campaign. Democrats need to wake up and smell the roses: Abortion isn’t a winning women’s issue anymore. Most women aren’t as dumb and emotional as they hope they are. This is a state rights issue. There’s nothing she can do about it. Quite frankly, a lot of women are tired of politicians only fighting for women when it comes to killing their children.
Likeability
Screaming misogyny and racism isn’t going to get you very far and it’s most certainly not going to increase election chances in the future. This is the lesson Democrats need to learn: pick better candidates. Kamala Harris was unqualified for the job, not ready for the tasks at hand, and completely unserious about the entire event. The same woman who vowed to be tough against Vladimir Putin, Kim Jung Un, and Ali Khamenei didn’t dare to face her supporters at her victory party.
A gentle reminder, Kamala Harris didn’t receive any votes during the primary. She was not elected but the American democrat voters to represent the Democrat party in the general election, but she was SELECTED by the unelected DNC. She was selected not because she the best option but because selecting anyone else meant losing the millions of dollars raised for Biden’s campaign. She was selected not because of her strong leadership skills but because she could follow directions and be a puppet for the DNC agenda which elevated her chances of seeing election day.
Had there been a primary at the beginning of 2024 she would have dropped out early because no one likes her and she doesn’t instil confidence in the American people. Her entire campaign strategy was to lead with emotions: fear, hate, and anger. “I hope they hate Trump more than they can’t stand me.”
“Don’t tell me you will stare down Vladimir Putin when you won’t even sit across from Joe Rogan.”
My take is this: not everyone voted for Trump. What they voted on was Vance, RFK, Jr, Tulsi, Elon, and Vivek. Democrats were too focused on abortion and transgenders. The majority of Americans are concerned about food on the table, paying utilities, mortgages and actually living life and not just surviving.
