I was going to wait until I could properly process my emotions and read all the details, but I’m over the moon excited. UPenn caved!
If I had to name a red-pill moment in my political life, I would say it was Lia Thomas and the way UPenn treated his teammates. Not only did they allow this 6’4’’ man to swim on the women’s team, but they also allowed him to undress and change in the women’s locker room. Worse than that, the school ignored the women who complained and asked for help. Not only do we need to thank Riley Gaines, Paula Scanlan, and the many women who wouldn’t stop fighting, as well as the Trump Administration for keeping their word, but we also need to thank the Supreme Court Justices for honoring the Constitution.
Two of the SCOTUS decisions from the last couple of weeks pertain, to some degree, to trans rights. The first being US v. Skrmetti regarding Tennessee’s ban on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors with gender dysphoria, and the second being Mahmoud v. Taylor where the Justics held parents from Montgomery County, Maryland had a right to a preliminary injuction and that school districts should offer an opt-out option whenever the curriculim threatens to encroach on a student’s right to the free exercise of religion. In February, the Trump Administration opened a Title IX investigation against the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) and found that it had violated Title IX by allowing William “Lia” Thomas to swim on the women’s team and use their locker room. They ordered UPenn to make changes and right some wrongs, or they would be referred to the DOJ. UPenn was ready to fight them in court, but then the Supreme Court happened. I imagine UPenn saw the writing on the wall and knew they couldn’t win, so they caved. You know what? A win is a win.
Per the settlement agreement, UPenn must restore all women’s records and titles, effectively erasing Thomas’s achievements. They must issue a public statement as well as adopt new policies that reflect and honor biological sex, and they must apologize to every female at UPenn who was negatively affected by Thomas’s presence on the team.
A win is truly a win!
Finally wrongs are being made right. The tide has well and truly turned and I can only hope it’s a tsunami of roll backs on stupid policy’s and back to
common sense and normality!
Finally! Common Sense and logic win out! So many people were on the wrong side of so many things these past 5 - 10 years. I'm so happy we are starting to remove the extremist legislative swings we've experienced during that time. It's one thing to have these extremist views. It's another to legislate that everyone else go along with them.
